'Look Familiar?'

Lucy: "Hey Emery! Look at what I found lying around my house! Look familiar? "
Emery: "Uh... Yeah... A little TOO familiar... How nice... "

Lucy was kind enough to take a liking to that togetic she'd been seeing from far away and decided to make a new friend by giving him a plush toy! Emery really was quite thrilled! But... He couldn't help but to be reminded of a particular movie he had rented recently...

This giant file is for the plush toy contest being held by =My5cookies here [link] . Okay, so there's a lot to say about this thing. Here I go.

Going clockwise in the thought bubble from the mirror, we have:

***About the Picture***

I know this picture has taken me at least over 25 hours to complete, with most of it being completed within these past two weeks. I just saved this new updated file as a JPEG. And it took it over 5 minutes to write and completely save. That's because this file is approximately 17 inches wide and 32 inches tall, with over 300 layers all together. Yep, that's 10.9 MB worth of data in this suckah. I do believe that is bigger than a poster size! Or as big as one...

Rewind to December the 18th, 3:30 am
I was brainstorming that night while I was trying to sleep. Almost all of the entries I had seen then had been either cute or funny. I really didn't want to go down that path, so I kept wondering what I could do to be different. I remembered the "make me fear for my life" quote Cookies had mentioned.... And that idea hit me like a ton of bricks. CORALINE!! It was near perfect! Then I remembered... Emery not only has a Russian Snowpointian tall friend, but he even has a CAT friend! That epiphany made me sit up straight in by bed, almost as if I had woken up from a scary dream. I kid you not when I say I could not sleep for the next two hours because all I could think about was this picture.

Two days later, just because I wanted to be as accurate as possible, I went to my public library and borrowed the novel Coraline to read. Of course, it wasn't until I was almost done that I realized that the Doll was actually never in the book (in the 'other mother's spy' kind of way). However, Emery has taken a liking to renting movies to watch at night, when he's too tired (or lazy) to go out. I wouldn't be surprised if this was one he picked up!

So I had some conflicting feelings about who the characters should be and how many there should be. I decided to keep Moje instead of characters like Terra and Joni. I felt that Pokemon that he was around the most would be the best choices for the image. Originally, I wanted *tinyshiny's character Simon to take on the role of Wybie, but it made no sense. So it ended up becoming Lucy at the last minute. I even had ratattas and plans to include the little ghost children, along with an image of the Other Mother before her change, but... I didn't want to crowd the image too much.

I did my best to not use outlines unless it was completely necessary. I really wanted to go for something that didn't look quite as defined and more whimsical. 3D instead of 2D imagery. I think that's a better way to put it. When I draw with outlines, my images always seem to look flat to me. That was definitely not what I wanted.

So all in all, I'm AMAZED at how my competitive side just erupted. I hardly ever play something to win. I like entering contests for fun! I still entered for fun here! I think this image was great for practice and it was awesome using different brushes and such. But I'm not in this just for fun. Not anymore...

Now I don't know what to do with myself... I've had this darling drawing hanging over my head for a month, and now I'm going to have to find something else to occupy myself with.
